About Srinivas Kuruganti

SRINIVAS KURUGANTI has spent months photographing the lives of families living in the Freedom Foundation AIDS shelter in Bangalore, India.

He has chronicled the lives of sex workers, coal miners and eunuchs in India. His work has been featured in the New York Times, the Village Voice and in “Refugees and AIDS,” a brochure (opens in a PDF) published in 2002 by the Women’s Commission for Refugee Women & Children.

His work has also been featured in several shows, including the Chobi Mela Festival 2004 in Dhaka, Bangladesh and at Time Magazine Gallery in New York. Having grown up in New Delhi and the U.S., he is fluent in Hindi and has the ability to quietly and respectfully portray people’s inner anguish in a photograph.
